Cortinarius incognitus Ammirati & Smith subgenus Dermocybe Cap 1.5-6cm across; broadly conic, then flattish with a low umbo; yellowish brown to cinnamon; appressed fibrillose. Gills adnate to sinuate; amber yellow at first, then more rusty. Stem 20-60 x 2-8mm, equal or tapering downward; pallid yellowish, base rusty brown or darker; surface fibrillose. Flesh yellowish at first, then brown. Odor normal. Taste slight. Spores ellipsoid or ovate, rough, 7-9 x 4-5µ, quotient 1.8. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat in conifer woods, especially pine. Found in Michigan and New Mexico and probably other areas. Season July-November. Not edible.
